Gung Hay Fat Choy 2017 by Robert Glenn Ketchum

Gung Hay Fat Choy!  Welcome to 2017, the Year of the Rooster.

If it is not already obvious, the rooster always wants to be in charge; he acts aggressively with everyone else in the barnyard; he sets his own schedule and expects everyone else to follow him; and, he is very proud of himself when he feels he has accomplished something, so he crows about it. With each passing year I come to appreciate the perceptive insights of the Chinese birth animals and the metaphors they serve for us in real life. 2017 is no exception.

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy New Year 2016!

Welcome to the Year of the Red Monkey. How about the serendipity of that considering the color of Donald Trump's hair (LOL)? Who knows where 2016 is going, so this is to wish us all safe journey, BUT I am happy to report I ended 2015 on a high note that has now carried forward into the New Year, so please read on.

National Wilderness Conference

The other recent event celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The Wilderness Act I participated in was National Wilderness Conference in Albuquerque, NM. Organized by all of the collective federal agencies that manage wilderness lands, this was a multi-day event featuring numerous presentations and distinguished speakers such as Interior Secretary Sally Jewell, author Terry Tempest Williams, and Senator Tom Udall. I was asked to be an "inspirational" closing keynote speaker, along with my old friend, Dave Foreman, author of Ecodefense: A Field Guide to Monkeywrenching, and co-founder of Earth First!, the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance and  most recently, the Rewilding Institute

Upcoming Shows Featuring Robert Glenn Ketchum

I will celebrate a birthday on December 1st and one of my presents is that a number of institutions are looking back over the last 40-years and recognizing artists and bodies of their work that broadened the conceptual dialogue around photography, and COLOR photography in particular.

On December 15th, the ORANGE COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART will open the exhibition, "Landscape Into Abstraction", (December 15, 2013 -March 9, 2014) a selection of paintings and photographs from the permanent collection that reflect that transition in artistic concept.

Thanks to the Getty and over 60 participating regional museums and galleries, in 2011 - 2012 an astounding series of exhibitions were installed throughout the Los Angeles area under the encompassing banner: PACIFIC STANDARD TIME The concept of these collective exhibits was to articulate the importance of those artists who have practiced in Los Angeles since 1945. Their unique perspectives have come to define the diverse artistic culture of LA and bring about the birth of the LA art scene.

Alberta Tar Sands The True Price of Petroleum by Garth Lenz, April 30,2011

Alberta Tar Sands The True Price of Petroleum
Disguised by the beauty of a reflection, these toxic tailings ponds are a considerable health risk. These vast toxic lakes are completely unlined and nearly a dozen of them lie on either side of the Athabasca River. Each day, enough of this toxic sludge is produced to fill 720 Olympic sized pools. Toxins leak into the Athabasca from Suncor’s, now “reclaimed” Tar Island pond, at a rate of one million gallons per day, the equivalent of about two Olympic-sized pools. Photograph © Garth Lenz

March 29, 2011 - April 24, 2011

From March 29th to April 24th, The G2 Gallery in Venice is going to exhibit some very interesting aspects of my work, a seldom-viewed embroidery, and 18-panels of a repeating leaf motif that is part of my new experimentation in the digital darkroom.
